Baptism

Take A Step In Your Faith

Baptism is one of two sacraments in the Presbyterian Church. We believe baptism is an outward and visible sign of an inward and invisible grace, enacting and sealing what scripture proclaims: God’s redeeming grace is for all. Baptism is also God’s invitation to respond to that grace with a life of faith.

At NYAPC, we practice both infant and adult baptism. We believe in one baptism through the Triune God. If you’ve been baptized in another church, we consider you baptized.

In infant baptism, ordinarily, the parent(s) or guardian(s) should be an active congregation member(s). In worship, they promise to provide nurture and guidance within the faith community until the child is ready to make a personal profession of faith and assume the responsibility of active church membership.

In adult baptism, the adult chooses to acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ in their life, making a profession of faith.
