MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
- Bring gloves, hats, and socks for the Mitten Tree by the front desk.
- Decorate tote bags for Radcliffe Room care packages at the Advent Festival on 11/27.
- Give to the Alternative Christmas Store and purchase Palestinian olive oil. Contributors may bring their Christmas gifts to be wrapped by youth on 12/18!

NOVEMBER 27
9:00 am – No Sunday School
11:15 am – Advent Festival. Join us following worship on the 5th floor in Peter Marshall Hall for festive treats, crafts, a service project, and some time for conversation – including a deeper-dive post-sermon conversation with our pastors.
DECEMBER 4
9 am – The Christmas Story in Art. Join the discussion in person or online as we view short virtual by David Gariff, senior lecturer, National Gallery of Art.
11:20 am – Choir Practice for Handel’s Messiah. New singers are invited to an hour–long rehearsal in the Sanctuary. Contact Music Director Stan Engebretson, stan.engebretson@nyapc.org, for more information.
11:30 am – First Sunday FaithTalk: Practicing Joy. One of the four candles in the Advent Wreath stands for Joy. What is joy? Can it be a spiritual practice? Join in the Lincoln Parlor or online.
DECEMBER 10 (Saturday)
9:30 am – Train Day and Pageant Rehearsal. A giant wooden train track layout will grace Peter Marshall Hall for all train fans and those who love them. The Children’s Pageant rehearsal will take place in the sanctuary, starting with youth. Children and youth of all ages are invited to come enjoy the trains and practice songs and readings for the pageant.
DECEMBER 11 – Christmas Pageant
8:45 am – Christmas Pageant Preparation. Children and youth of all ages are welcome in the Christmas pageant! Even if you don’t attend any previous rehearsals, you may still come and participate. Costume distribution is at 8:45 or you may come dressed as a sheep, shepherd, or angel. We will run through the pageant and music at 9:00.
9:00 am – The Christmas Story in Art. Join the discussion in person or online as we view short virtual presentations by David Gariff, senior lecturer, National Gallery of Art.
10:00 am – Worship with Christmas Pageant. Children and youth of all ages are welcome to participate in our Christmas pageant!
DECEMBER 18 – Special Music & Giving
9:00 am – The Christmas Story in Art, Join the discussion in person or online as Tom Dunlap leads us through Christmas Art from the National Gallery.
9:00 am – Children and Youth Sunday School. Advent lessons for all!
10:00 am – Worship with Special Music. The Sanctuary Choir will sing portions of Handel’s Messiah with special guest Soprano Danielle Talamantes singing “Rejoice Greatly,” and the “He Shall Feed His Flock” duet with NYAPC Choral Associate Jenete St. Clair.
11:15 am – Coffee Hour: Hot Chocolate Bar! Enjoy hot chocolate treats in the Radcliffe Room.
11:15 am – Alternative Christmas Store and Youth Gift-Wrapping. Need help wrapping your gifts? Donate to the Alternative Christmas Store and you can have your gifts wrapped by our high school youth! Join us in the Radcliffe Room for a festive time of hot chocolate, fellowship, and giving.
6:00 pm – Theology on Tap. Young Adult Christmas Party, hosted by Pastor Rachel.
DECEMBER 24 – Christmas Eve

4:00 pm – Candlelight Worship - onsite and online with full choir and brass and a special time for children.
7:00 pm – Candlelight Worship - communion, choral and instrumental soloists.
DECEMBER 25 – Christmas Day
Free garage parking available, 1399 New York Avenue
10:00 am – Join us onsite and online for a festive Lessons & Carols worship with a selection of Christmas hymns accompanied by brass and scripture readings.
JANUARY 1 – New Year’s Day

JANUARY 8 – Epiphany (observed)
10:00 am – Worship with Star Words. We will read and explore the story of the Magi from the Gospel of Matthew, and continue a tradition of receiving Star Words. Each worshiper, onsite and online, will be invited to receive one star word (at random) as a gift for discerning God’s presence in the year ahead.
January 15 MLK Birthday Month Stories
9:00 AM - The Power of Friendship. Paul Dornan will share the story of two friends, Thelma Odom and Jerry Docherty, and how their decision to go to Selma in 1965 thrust the NYAPC into an active stance in the Civil Rights Movement. Join the discussion in person or online (pass code 047975)
January 22 MLK Birthday Month Stories
9:00 AM – The Power of Partnership. Paul Dornan will tell the story of a mid-1960s partnership among three DC clergy people, Father Geno Baroni, Reverend Philip Newall of NYAPC and Rabbi Isaac Franck, as they forged an interfaith social justice agenda for Washington's political leadership.
