Our church is seeking an autism specialist to work with our SundaySchool program.
The hours would be 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. most Sundays. During the summer and the Christmas season, the hours may shift a bit longer.
This very special person would primarily work with one elementary school aged boy who has severe autism. When that 10-year-old boy is not present, the specialist would work with other children of the church, some who have special needs.
Here would be a rough breakdown of the morning:
9:30-10:00: Get set up and ready to welcome the young boy and his family. Create a meeting and greeting ritual with the young boy.
10:00-10:15: Accompany the young boy to the all-church school class.
10:15-10:50: Accompany the young boy to Sunday School class and act as his helper and guide.
10:50-12:30: Accompany the young boy to the worship service. Take the young boy out to have a special activity in the rest of the church if appropriate.
Pay is between $15-20/ hour.
You must be over 21 years old.
We would prefer someone who is available most Sundays. If this is not possible, we are open to 2 people sharing this job and alternating weeks present.
You must have special education teaching experience and training.
We are open to hiring both licensed and non-licensed specialists.
We are a progressive church in downtown DC. While you do not need to also be a progressive Christian, you must be comfortable working within a Christian setting.
To apply for this position, please send a cover letter and resume to email@example.com.
