Women's Board Each church in the Presbytery is allowed a complement of 15 representatives on the Women's Board. NYA currently has 13 active members and two vacancies. All members participate in one or more of the opportunities for service at the Home. They help in all of the social events, such as monthly teas, weekly entertainments, occasional tours of the city, and the Christmas Party. Many hours and many talents are given to events sponsored by the Board as benefits for the Supporting Fund. This fund assists residents of the Home when resources have been depleted during the time they have lived in the Home. These include: The Shoppes - receiving, pricing and displaying merchandise, such as clothing, house furnishings, gifts, notions, and sundries, which may be purchased by the residents and the public. Items in The Shoppes come in as donations (tax deductible) by many generous contributors. When surplus items have accumulated (seasonal clothing, etc.) they are bundled up and taken to other facilities, such as churches and other distribution centers. The NYA Clothes Closet has been an appreciative recipient of items available to those who visit the Radcliffe Room each Sunday and those who frequent the McClendon Center during the week. The Fund also provides necessary medical equipment, renovations in all areas of the Home, additions to the landscaping on the grounds surrounding the Home, and many other projects to make the Home a very pleasant center for all the residents and the support staff. One of the most beneficial contributions to the Home is the delightful Spring Fashion Show Luncheon. Board members organize, sell tickets, model and take part in all phases of this event, which is very profitable to the Supporting Fund. Other benefit activities include events such as the Annual Silver Tea, held each year on the first Sunday in May, as an opportunity for interested families and others to tour the entire facility, including The Apartments which were opened in 2000. One of the happiest times at the Home is the Christmas Party given by the Board for all the residents and staff. The beautiful decorations are put up by board members, who also provide hundreds of home-made cookies and other goodies. Assistance is given at the Christmas Brunch, sponsored by Social Services that is held on the first Sunday in December for residents of the Health Care Center and their families and staff. One of the functions of all members is visitation of the residents, including all sections of the Home -- Residence, Assisted Living, Health Care Center, and the Garden Level, as well as The Apartments. The Home is a very comfortable place for all who come to live there. Occupancy is generally in the 98% bracket with waiting lists in all sections. All the members do many things throughout the year which contribute to the success of the missions and achievements of the Women's Board in serving the residents at Ingleside. Special recognition must be given to some of our NYA Committee for their magnanimous service: Gloria Francke, who is a past Co-President of the Board, having served in that office for four years, spends many hours every week working in the clothing shop. Jennie Leitch not only is in her second term as Recording Secretary but is also, for the second time, serving as Chairman of the Annual Spring Fashion Show (the next one to be held on Saturday, March 27, 2004.) Toni Davenport assists in selecting the models and their clothing. Bernice McIntyre and Marcia Kozub have participated as models several times. Vernona Turnbull gives faithful service in the Gift Shop. Marcia Kozub has served two years as Chairman of the Christmas Party and is a pianist for the meetings of the Board. Mary Anne Davis is Telephone Chairman for communicating information. The active NYA members currently include: Anne Blabey, Toni Davenport, Gloria Francke, Beatrice Fuller, Frances Gray, Neill Joiner, Marcia Kozub, Jennie Leitch, Bernice McIntyre, Gladys Rigsby, Vernona Turnbull and the two co-chairs. There are two vacancies. Anyone interested in being a member of the NYA Committee may contact the Co-Chairs or other Board members. Our NYA Committee feels gratified and blessed in the service being given and we look forward to a good year in 2004. |
